Why Give

We are raising $10 million to bring the new Central Library to life with exciting spaces, high-quality and inclusive programming, and new high-tech tools and resources to foster creativity creation and inspire learning at any age.

All over the world, in cities like Helsinki, Doha, Austin and Halifax, central libraries have transformed communities.

With your support, the Ottawa Central Library at Ādisōke can be a transformative force in the national capital.

Your donation will help unlock the Central Library’s potential to bring major social and economic benefits to Ottawa, and to be a catalyst for creativity.

With your help, the Ottawa Central Library will:

  • Remove barriers to technology
  • Connect the most vulnerable with programs and services
  • Help newcomers to Canada integrate well and thrive.
  • Provide teens with purpose-built spaces
  • Reduce social isolation for seniors
  • Connect families and children with thousands of literacy programs every year.

With every $1 yielding $5 in economic value for our community, a donation today will go a long way.

  • La très honorable Beverley McLachlin

"Few things are as powerful as a library card – a free and accessible key that opens the doors to learning, creativity, and opportunities for everyone in our community.

And now, with Ottawa’s new impressive Central Library, this key will open the door to the city’s newest landmark destination for generations to come."

The library gives us a sense of inclusiveness. It’s really important and we’re really thankful for feeling like we are part of this community. Libraries have been one of the resources that has made us feel that way.

We’ve gone ever since the kids were babies. And when I was a kid, my mom had a library card for me. So I’ve been a cardholder for 30-some years. We will make our way to the new library, the plans look amazing. It will make for a super fun outing!
